Selection and filling of molecular sieves for adsorption dryers. Precautions and basic parameters for adsorption.
INDUSTRY NEWS 2024-07-23

Adsorption dryers use molecular sieves to remove moisture from gases. When selecting and loading molecular sieves, the following points should be noted:

Molecular sieve selection

1. Type: Common molecular sieve types include 3A, 4A, 5A and 13X. The specific selection depends on the type of gas and the required degree of drying:

- 3A: The pore size is about 3Å, suitable for drying polar molecules such as acetylene and propylene.

- 4A: The pore size is about 4Å, suitable for drying air, natural gas, hydrogen, etc.

- 5A: The pore size is about 5Å, suitable for drying liquefied petroleum gas, ethylene, etc.

- 13X: The pore size is larger, suitable for drying air and other non-polar molecules, and has a higher adsorption capacity.

2. Adsorption capacity: The adsorption capacity of different molecular sieves at different temperatures and pressures is different, and the selection should be optimized according to the actual working conditions.

3. Durability and regeneration performance: The molecular sieve should have good durability and regeneration performance to ensure stability for long-term use.

Notes on filling and adsorption

1. Uniform filling: During filling, ensure that the molecular sieve is evenly distributed to avoid short-circuiting of airflow or local oversaturation.

2. Prevent powdering: Molecular sieve powdering should be avoided during filling, otherwise it will lead to a decrease in adsorption efficiency.

3. Waterproof treatment: The molecular sieve should be kept dry before filling to avoid adsorbing moisture in the environment.

4. Good sealing: Ensure that the dryer is well sealed to prevent external moisture from entering.

Basic parameters

1. Operating pressure: Usually between 0.6~1.0 MPa.

2. Operating temperature: Generally between -20℃~50℃, depending on the process requirements.

3. Regeneration temperature: The regeneration temperature is usually between 150℃~250℃, depending on the type of molecular sieve and adsorption capacity.

4. Adsorption cycle: The adsorption cycle is determined by the actual gas flow rate and water content, usually between several hours and several days.

5. Regeneration time: The regeneration time is usually between 2 and 8 hours, depending on the regeneration method and the size of the equipment.

Through the above steps, the molecular sieve can be effectively selected and loaded to ensure the efficient operation of the adsorption dryer. If there are further specific needs, it can be optimized and adjusted according to the actual application conditions.
