What is molecular sieve? Why must this kind of thing be used for insulating glass?

1. Concept of molecular sieve


Molecular sieve is a kind of microporous aluminosilicate crystal. It has the characteristics of uniform pore size, 

extremely high specific surface area, good thermal stability, strong adsorption performance, large internal surface area, 

and high strength. Molecular sieves are divided into several categories due to their different uses: 

3A, 4A, 5A, 13X, 13X air separation special molecular sieves, hollow glass molecular sieves, 

molecular sieve activation powder, carbon molecular sieves, etc.


2. Advantages of molecular sieves


Selective adsorption based on the size and shape of molecules, that is, only adsorbing molecules smaller than the pore size 

of the molecular sieve. For small ones with good polarity and good unsaturation, they have selective adsorption energy. 

The greater the polarity and the higher the degree of unsaturation, the stronger the selective adsorption. Has strong water 

absorption. Even at higher temperatures, larger airspeeds and lower water contents, there is still a fairly high water absorption capacity.


2. Interpretation of insulating glass:


Among the insulating glass currently on the market, some products use desiccants other than 3A molecular sieves. Some manufacturers use 4A molecular sieves or even use Class B desiccants as desiccants in insulating glass. This will reduce the service life of the insulating glass.


Although 4A molecular sieve has a strong adsorption capacity for moisture, it also has a strong adsorption capacity for nitrogen and other inert gases in the air. As the temperature rises and falls, it will also have a strong adsorption capacity for the gases in the insulated glass. Adsorption and release, as the temperature difference between day and night or the change of seasons, the insulating glass can easily be distorted and broken due to expansion and contraction, causing safety accidents. Therefore, in the production of insulating glass, it is strictly prohibited to use other molecular sieves except 3A molecular sieve as insulating glass desiccant.
